AFTER a wait of almost exactly a year Colwall residents can celebrate the return of their village post office.
On Saturday, June 21 Nigel and Sara Morris will officially unveil their new business, which will offer a traditional post office counter and a shop selling a range of cards, stationery and other useful items.
The post office has been backed by Colwall Parish Council, which will also have its own office in the new premises at Bank Chambers, in Walwyn Road.
The council stepped in after former post master Ray Wills announced he was closing his business due to falling profits and uncertainty over the future of rural post offices.
It is subsidising the rent of the new post office for the first three years, costing village taxpayers £5,500 on their parish precept, equivalent to £4.78 for a band D property.
Mr and Mrs Morris are holding an open day from 2-4pm tomorrow to meet local residents and offer a look at the new business.
As of Monday the post office will be open six days a week, from 9am-5.30pm Monday-Friday and 9am-12.30pm on Saturdays.
Mr Morris has had a very positive response from Colwall residents.
"With the way things are at the moment it is quite unusual to be reopening a village post office," he said. "It's good news for the community, and we are really looking forward to it. The parish council have been absolutely fantastic. They have really gone above and beyond over this."
Mr and Mrs Morris will now be splitting their time between Colwall and their other business the Great Malvern Post Office, in Abbey Road.
