COLWALL’S famous ‘Aunt Alice’ clock is to receive a £6,000 facelift.
On Wednesday (July 30) Colwall Parish Council appointed Gillette and Johnston, who originally made the clock in the early 1930s, to carry out the work, which involves repairs to the hands and clock face.
The work will cost £5,938, and parish clerk Karen Davis said it will now take place as soon as possible.
Colwall’s stricken railway bridge was also discussed at the full council meeting, with chairman Nicky Carless reporting the results of a survey conducted in the parish.
Out of 965 returned survey forms, 35 per cent preferred the idea of a single-lane bridge - the option currently being proposed by Herefordshire Council - while the remaining 65 per cent would rather see a two-lane carriageway.
Cllr Carless will report the findings when she meets with Herefordshire Council officials on Wednesday (August 6).
Vice-chairman John Mills said the survey gave the parish council an ‘overwhelming mandate’.
“It is clear what the village wants,” he said.
The council also agreed to the principal of conducting a tree and hedge survey in the parish.
Councillor and Colwall tree warden Wil Leaper will look into the potential cost, and investigate what funding may be available.
“I am totally convinced that this is something the parishioners support, and that would be of great value,” said cllr Leaper.
