WORK to construct a new railway bridge in Colwall will not disrupt the village football club’s plans for the new season.
Work to replace the stricken bridge is expected to take place in spring 2009, and there were fears that heavy lifting equipment would need to be located on the club’s nearby Walwyn Road pitches.
The club expressed their concerns to Colwall Parish Council, who passed them on in discussions with Herefordshire Council and Network Rail.
Colwall St James FC secretary Shaun Badham was delighted to be told that the necessary machinery could be sited on land to the rear of the pitches.
“We’ve been told that any work will not affect us, which is a huge relief,” he said. “When we were told about the bridge work initially we thought it was going to put paid to our season.
“It’s good news for us, as we are providing an organisation for the people of Colwall who want to come and play football.”
John Mills, vice-chairman of Colwall Parish Council, said: “We think that the football club will be okay.
“If they have any more problems we will do our best to solve them for them.”
