THE bells rang out across Bosbury yesterday (Thursday) in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first ever peal of the Bosbury Bells.
The first peal, lasting just over three hours, rang out on May 20, 1910 in tribute to monarch King Edward VII, who had died two weeks earlier. In memory of the late king the bells were muffled throughout the peal, which comprised an exacting 5040 changes.
Yesterday (Thursday, May 20), exactly 100 years later, a group of Bosbury bellringers assisted by a few other ringers from the Ledbury area rang a similar 5040 change peal to mark the anniversary.
The peal was led by captain of the bellringers Frank Seabright, and also celebrated the recent marriage of his son Edward and new wife Kate, who are both ringers themselves.
The Bosbury Bellringers are always on the lookout for new recruits and complete beginners are very welcome. To get involved or find out more call Mr Seabright on 01531 640252 or head to a practice, which take place in the tower at Bosbury Church from 7.30-9pm on Wednesdays.
