Celebrating spring in the orchards

COLWALL residents celebrated spring on Sunday, May 1, with a blossom picnic.
Organised by the Colwall Orchards Project, the event took place among the village's flowering fruit trees.
Early risers started the day with a dawn chorus walk, which allowed them to see and hear some of the local birdlife, including redstarts and woodpeckers.
And after the picnic was over, the residents were able to watch BBC TV's Countryfile, which featured a segment on the orchard project which had been filmed a couple of weeks ago, and by coincidence was transmitted on the same day as the picnic.
