The main thing that came out of our discussions was that we were not going to continue meeting at Christchurch Hall as, rumour has it that, there are going to be changes there. “YOU can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.” This quote from Nobel Prize winner, Dr Linus Pauling was one of the opening remarks of the October speaker, David Barrie. He then went on to explain how many of us do not have an ideal diet. Not only do we eat less fruit and vegetables than we used to, but many of those we do eat are less nutritional than they were. For example, wheat now contains only 9% protein compared to 90% in 1900 and similarly the iron content of spinach has fallen drastically. The situation for today’s children is very worrying: they eat less than half the vegetables of their parents and only a third of their grandparents’ intake.
