After the distribution of birthday cards there was a some business. Members are looking forward to several Severn Group events, including Group Meeting, the quiz in November and the Carol Service at Powick in early December. He then went on to explain how many of us do not have an ideal diet. Not only do we eat less fruit and vegetables than we used to, but many of those we do eat are less nutritional than they were. For example, wheat now contains only 9% protein compared to 90% in 1900 and similarly the iron content of spinach has fallen drastically. The situation for today’s children is very worrying: they eat less than half the vegetables of their parents and only a third of their grandparents’ intake.
