Rail death man was suspended officer
11:00am Thursday 1st November 2012 in Ledbury
THE man who died in front of a train between Malvern and London was a senior police officer who had been suspended over allegations of gross misconduct and fraud.
The body of assistant chief constable Gordon Fraser, of Leicestershire Police, was discovered after officers were called to reports of a man being struck by a train near a bridge over the line at Dorn, near Moreton-in-Marsh at about 12.20pm on Friday.Mr Fraser, who had been suspended since December 2010, was pronounced dead at the scene and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Police Authority issued a joint statement saying they were “deeply shocked and saddened” by the death. Mr Fraser was being investigated by Merseyside Police following allegations of misconduct and fraud but further details were not disclosed.
He was due to appear before St Albans magistrates alongside his wife Teresa, a serving officer with West Midlands Police, on Monday over a separate charge of perverting the course of justice in connection with a speeding incident.
Mr Fraser was struck by the 10.22 London Paddington to Hereford service.
