A BLOSSOMING interest in gardening has seen children from a Ledbury pre-school create their own wildflower garden.

Earlier this year Busy Bees pre-School was approached by Ledbury in Bloom to get involved in the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ scheme.

Ledbury in Bloom donated an area of land just off the town trail, just a short distance from Busy Bees’ base at Ledbury Primary School, as well as some funding to get the project underway.

Emma Davis, manager of Busy Bees, said: “It was very overgrown but we could see the potential to create a wonderful space with and for the children.

Once the site was safe, under the guidance of pre-school Assistant and keen gardener Fay Pilliner, the children began clearing, weeding and planting.”

The project attracted sponsorship from local businesses including Homebase, Countrywide, Amcor and Ledbury Welding.

By the time Heart of England in Bloom judge Angela Pendleton came to visit in the summer, it looked impressive enough for her to award an “establishing”

certificate.

As a result of the project’s success, Busy Bees is now offering a gardening club for its older children every Tuesday afternoon.
