AN “amazing” trip to build houses for needy families in Mozambique has put a new perspective on life back at home for one Ledbury man.
Edd Hogan, aged 35, has just returned after travelling to the Xai Xai district, about 70 miles north of the capital Maputo, with work colleagues from Birminghambased Aon Risk Solutions.
They spent a week working with the charity Habitat for Humanity, building two homes from scratch.
Mr Hogan said: “We experienced something amazing – we were building homes for two families where they were living in dilapidated mud plaster huts with leaking roofs and no sanitation.
“As well as the building, we played with the children there every day.
“They have so little and get so much joy out of little things like playing with balloons or blowing bubbles.
“We were welcomed into the community and have all left with some fond memories and a better appreciation of what we have here in the UK.”
