LEDBURY Primary School has proved it is top of the class when it comes to protecting the environment after securing the coveted Eco Schools Green Flag award.

Pupils have been working hard to transform the school’s daily routine into one that benefits the environment and saves money.

Simple changes, like ensuring all unnecessary lights are switched off and that paper, plastic and other materials are recycled have already cut bills as well as making Ledbury Primary one of the most sustainable schools in the country.

Eco-Schools asks children to set up a committee which then conducts a school audit highlighting areas that could be made more environmentally friendly.

Eco-committee coordinator Chantal Scholefield said, “Obtaining the Green Flag award is something that the whole school and its surrounding community can be proud of.

“It has been a fantastic initiative for all involved, however it is by no means over, as the greater challenge is to maintain what we have achieved so far and look towards ways of improving even further.”
