Anger as road is now used as a free car park

DOUBLE parking on an important Ledbury road has led to complaints from local residents while town councillors search for solutions.

The town council has been contacted by several residents concerned that, since Ledbury’s only free car park became paid-for last autumn, more and more drivers are using New Street for parking most days.

The issue was discussed at the planning and economic development committee, where councillors acknowledged there was a real problem, and they decided to make it at agenda item for another meeting.

Town clerk Karen Mitchell said that, in previous years, councillors had called for “double yellow lines all the way down New Street”, but that is not a called-for solution at the present time.

Meanwhile, town councillors have been stepping forward as volunteers to help monitor how much Ledbury’s car parks are being used, or not used.

It follows fears that they are now being under-used following the loss of free car parking at Bridge Street car park and a rise in charges at the others.

Mrs Mitchell said that four town councillors had now stepped forward as volunteer monitors, and they would discuss their involvement further at a meeting on Monday.
