5:00pm Sunday 20th October 2013 in Ledbury
A HUNDRED vehicles were stopped and searched during an operation to target metal thieves.
Scrap dealers and motorists were kept on their toes during operations which took place on Wednesday, October 9, to mark National Metal Theft Day.
ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) operations took place with police and their partners checking to ensure vehicles were road-worthy and that licences and insurance were in order.
The operations were carried out by officers from the newly formed Warwickshire and West Mercia operations patrol unit and proactive tasking teams.
Other organisations involved included the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA), HM Revenue and Customs, and the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA).
Vehicles were stopped on Ross Road in Ledbury as part of the operations.
Nine prohibition notices were issued and two vehicles seized for having no insurance.
