A PROGRAMME inspired by the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics was launched at Ledbury Primary School this week.

The school was visited by a guest speaker, the paralympic ski-racer, Anna Turney, whose mantra for success is, "I don't do defeat."

But the aim of the scheme is to inspire not just through sport, but in other areas of life.

The Be the Best you can Be! Programme was rolled out nationally on Monday, September 15, to enable young people "to discover and develop the unique potential within themselves and to pursue and fulfil their dreams".

Ledbury Primary's headteacher, Julie Rees said: "This unique programme has been developed as an educational legacy going beyond sport and far beyond the inspiration of London 2012 to inspire the youth of Britain and the rest of the world.

"The inspiration offered by high achievers who strive to achieve their dreams is incredibly powerful and can really reach out and engage our young people. I am pleased to welcome Anna Turney to launch our programme and my teachers and I look forward to delivering this exciting and transformational programme.”

The Be the Best you can Be! Programme will include a Staff Development Day.

The launch will be followed by further themes designed to help young people discover the skills they need to follow their dreams and to begin their own successful journey.

The programme will conclude with a celebration where all the young people and teachers share what they have learnt and support each other in pursuing their dreams and goals.

Participants will then be presented with an award and certificate, intended to encourage them to continue to work towards their goals or set new ones.
