THE family of a loving father- of-three killed on the A49 near Hereford following a motorcycle accident say the road is a death trap.

Relatives of 58-year-old George Gwynn want to see safety measures including speed cameras installed on the busy road at Moretonon- Lugg where he died last Friday.

Mr Gwynn, a doorman at Hereford nightclub Mamma Jammas, has been described by loved ones as a loyal, big-hearted family man.

“He was the most loving person you could meet,”

said his wife Val Gwynn, who lived with her husband of 31 years on the College Estate in Hereford.

“He had a massive heart and was very close to his family. He lived for them.”

The keen fisherman was on the way home from his other job as a mechanic at Moreton-based Imperial Commercials when the accident happened.

He is the second motorcyclist in less than three months to lose their life on the A49 at Moreton following the death of 55-yearold Leominster man Hugh McGuigan at the end of September.

“It’s a death trap that road,” said his youngest daughter, Sarah Gwynn.

“We would like to see a speed camera along there.

It needs something. There are too many deaths on that road.”

The family is unaware of the circumstances of the accident, which took place about 3.45pm last Friday.

Mrs Gwynn says she has been overwhelmed by the number of flowers the family has received.

Her husband is also survived by the couple’s three children, Suzanne, Sarah and George, and four grandchildren.

He was well respected bycolleagues at both his jobs, with many calling at the family home in the past few days to offer their condolences and share their memories of him.

Jonathan Jones, the owner of Mamma Jammas, said: “As you can imagine we are all still in complete shock and we are all struggling to come to terms with this tragic event.

“He was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and worked with him.

“This weekend, staff and customers alike could not believe he was gone. There were a lot of tears, but also a lot of very fond memories and funny stories.

“I had the pleasure of knowing him personally for nearly 15 years having worked with him at Manhattan’s nightclub and latterly at Mamma Jammas.”

The accident happened near the Moreton Business Park with an off-duty anaesthetist stopping to give CPR before further help arrived. However, Mr Gwynn was confirmed dead at the scene.

The incident involved a Fiat Punto which was in collision with Mr Gwynn as he turned left from the business park.

The Moreton area’s county councillor, Kema Guthrie, says she has requested a meeting with the Highways Agency to discuss how safety can be improved along that part of the route.

“The speed of traffic has been a great concern for residents,” she said.

Any witnesses should call 101, quoting incident number 432 of December 12.
