A HEREFORD school choir is celebrating after winning a spot in the final of a national choral competition.

The Hereford Cathedral Junior School chamber choir – made up of 40 young singers in years five and six – recorded a CD in October which was sent off the a panel of judges led by conductor and composer Douglas Coombes.

As finalists in the Barnardo's National Choral Competition, the choir will perform at the Royal Festival Hall in London on March 9 2015.

It will also compete for the title of Barnardo's 'choir of the year' and the opportunity to perform in the Royal Albert Hall later in the year.

Rachael Toolan, head of music and choir director, said: "It is such an honour to be chosen as entries are sent in from school across the country and the standard is very high."

Year five pupil, Olivia Teale, added that the choir members are all proud to have been chosen to sing at the Royal Festival Hall.
