FIRE protection officer, Andy Coombs found willing volunteers when he visited the Shop at Bromesberrow to demonstrate fire fighting equipment.

Gay Samuel and Jan Long enjoyed a “hands on” lesson using foam and water extinguishers and were also shown how to use the fire blanket.

Mr Coombs said: “The fire extinguishers in the Shop were no longer fit for purpose, but I was able to utilise them for training purposes for Gay and Jan, who were confident about using equipment in an emergency.

"The old equipment was removed and now the Shop is fully compliant with the required regulations.”

Mrs Long said, “The imperative is to ensure our community shop is safe, and with flammable materials, combustible items and electrical equipment in the village community Shop, it is vital that we all know how to use the fire fighting extinguishers, which could not only prevent the loss of provisions and goods in the shop, but more importantly, could save someone’s life”.
