With the age of the telephone kiosk drawing to a close, thanks to the age of the mobile phone, people in the Dymock area may soon be able to use the distinctive red boxes for poetic inspiration, instead of for emergency calls.

Dymock Parish Council is offering to make currently disused telephone kiosks available to the Friends of the the Dymock Poets group.

A Friends spokesperson said: "This will give us the responsibility of designing and maintaining a suitable display, which could be an excellent tourism and information point."

The Dymock Poets, including Rupert Brooke, Robert Frost and Edward Thomas, were active in the Dymock area just before the outbreak of the First World War.

There are available kiosks at Brooms Green, Four Oaks and Ryton.

One member of the Friends group, Jackie Tweedale has already expressed interest in taking on kiosks at Brooms Green.

The idea is that the kiosks will become "poetry points", but all ideas will be subject to the approval of the Parish Council.

A similar idea has been tried before.

A disused kiosk in Kempley was recently turned into an information point, for visitors and tourists.
