A FUNDRAISING team from Wellington Heath has set itself the task of raising money for Guide Dogs this weekend, and on throughout the summer.

Patrick and the Pacemakers and Ivan the Guide Dog have organised two local events to set the ball rolling.

On Friday June 5 there will be an Open Garden day at Longacre, Evendine Lane, Colwall from 6pm to 9pm, by kind permission of owner David Pudsey.

Team spokesman, Patrick Adams, said: "This beautiful three acre garden was opened to the public through the Yellow Book Garden scheme for many years and is being opened specially for this one evening in aid of Guide Dogs. Entry is £5 for adults with a free glass of wine and £1 for children with a free soft drink. Parking will be available at Caves Folly nursery. All proceeds will go to Guide Dogs so come along and meet Ivan the Guide Dog and his fundraising team."

On Sunday June 7, Upton Rowing Club are adding their support by holding a Blindfold Row. Club members have volunteered to wear a blindfold for their Sunday morning row and donate £5 each to Guide Dogs.

Other fundraising events this summer will culminate in the Coniston Challenge, in September.

Mr Adams said: "The intrepid team of Guide Dog heroes will do a sponsored walk up the Old Man of Coniston, an off road, orienteering cycle ride through Grizedale Forest and finish with kayaking on Coniston Water; all in one day."

Any wishing to contribute can make a donation to Patrick Adams through www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com. All donations will go direct to Guide Dogs.
