THIS incredible picture shows a crushed car that was being driven on a Worcestershire motorway- 40 miles from where it had been damaged by a heavy goods vehicle.

The smashed silver Vauxhall Signum, with its roof buckled and windscreen cracked and ripped from the roof, was pulled over by officers of West Midlands Central Motorway Police Group near junction 5 of the M5, near Droitwich Spa.

Remarkably, the force confirmed the car had driven under a lorry near junction 13 of the same motorway in Gloucestershire, and had continued to be driven before it was stopped, despite the significant damage that had been sustained.

Even more remarkably, the force confirmed no one had sustained serious injuries during the incident.

Its entire left-hand side had been bent out of shape by the force of the crash, which left a considerable hole in the car's roof.

The bonnet, bumper and headlights of the vehicle had also been severely damaged.

Gloucestershire Police confirmed a 30-year-old man from Birmingham has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and for dangerous driving.

He has been bailed until July 13.

The vehicle was stopped on Saturday, May 30 around 8.30am.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police said: "Police are grateful for members of the public who contacted them with information about this incident and will be in touch to thank them personally."

Anyone with information is asked to call Gloucestershire Police, quoting incident number 113 of 30 May.
