A SHEEP shearing contest will be held later this month in memory of a young farmer who died in a tragic accident.

Billy Rudge became trapped under farm machinery in February this year and, despite the best efforts of firefighters and paramedics, was declared dead at a farm on the outskirts of Sellack, near Ross-on-Wye.

The 20-year-old former John Kyrle student was a passionate farmer and his former headteacher Nigel Griffiths said Mr Rudge showed a natural aptitude for practical work which he wanted to build upon in the agricultural community.

The event on Friday, August 28, will raise funds for two young people to spend two months in New Zealand learning more about the farming trade.

The speed shearing contest will be held from 7pm at Court Farm in Baysham on a night when a barbecue will also be lit to feed guests.

All are welcome to attend.
