SEVENTEEN species of butterflies were spotted during a walk at Haugh Woods.

These included the nationally rare (though common to Woolhope Dome) wood white; the silver washed fritillary and the nationally scarce white letter hairstreak.

Organised by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, the walk was led by expert local enthusiasts Bob Hall and Jane Wise.

Organiser Stas Calder said: “I was thrilled that the weather was so perfect as that’s so critical for seeing butterflies. A huge thank you to Bob and Jane for giving their time to lead the walk and for sharing their knowledge.”
