SIGHTS and sounds from the Victorian age will be seen in Ledbury next month, to celebrate the record-breaking reign of the present Queen, Elizabeth 11.

The famous "Charles Martell" stagecoach will travel from The Beauchamp Arms pub in Dymock to the Feathers Hotel in Ledbury on Saturday, September 19; offering nostalgic travel of around nine miles in total, there and back.

The four or five miles from Dymock to Ledbury should be covered in around 30 minutes or less, depending of course on the speed of the horses.

Apart from marking a monumental reign, the purpose of the event will be to raise funds for a local primary.

An event spokesman said: "A donation of £50 per seat, each way, will be in aid of development at the Ann Cam School, Dymock.

"Period costume will be welcome."

The stagecoach will be drawn "by Mr Adrian Lander's team of four magnificent coach horses".

Mr Martell is perhaps best known as the local cheesemaker responsible for the infamously popular "Stinking Bishop", a monastic-style cheese that is so pungent it was used by Gromit to raise Wallace from the dead, in the hit movie (2005), "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit".

But Mr Martell is also well -known for using his coach and four for fund-raising.

In June 2013, for instance, he organised a Coronation stagecoach run, a two day event which started at Gloucester and finished at Hereford Cathedral.

It passed through Ledbury during the town's celebratory ox roast. Money raised went to the Great Oaks Dean Forest Hospice and St Michaels Hospice, Bartestree.

This time, the stagecoach will ride to mark an even more historic landmark than the 60th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation.

Until now, Queen Victoria has had the longest reign of any king or queen in the various kingdoms of the British Isles.

But September 10, Elizabeth II will, if still reigning, surpass the reign of her great-great-grandmother.

Victorian was on the throne for 63 years and 216 days.
