THE chairman of a village hall which was vandalised has praised the community and tradespeople who have worked hard to make sure it was reopened a week later.
Police were called to Withington Village Hall in Coppice Close at 1.30am to reports of a disorder on November 15.
The hall had to close due to the amount of damage caused, which included broken windows and damage to furniture and toilets.
But it reopened again on Saturday for a birthday party in the evening.
Chairman Kevin Hewison said: "A company of professional industrial cleaners came in and spent three days cleaning. There are a lot of local businesses who have bent over backwards to do jobs for us from doing simple building work to the electrics to plumbing to chair lifts, fire alarms and extinguishers.
"We are very appreciative of the support everyone has given us."
Four people were arrested in connection with the disorder and have been bailed until December 23.
