VOLUNTEERS who work hard to make Hereford a better place to live will be recognised in this year's city awards.

Organisers of the Hereford City Community Group Achievement Awards are now asking for nominations for this year.

The overall winning group will receive £1,000 towards their next community project and second and third place will receive £500 and £200.

There is also a Community Open Space Award which will be presented by Hereford in Bloom in recognition of the work of community groups committed to keeping the city looking nice.

Tracy Morriss, civic and community development officer for Hereford City Council, said: "The event has really flourished over the last four years and the recognition has been a real boost and appreciated by all the volunteers who work so hard for their community groups delivering projects in the city making the city a better place to live."

The aim of the awards, which are now in their fourth year, is to recognise community groups within the city of Hereford for a specific project they have delivered within their area in the last two years.

The awards, which are in association with the Hereford Times, are not just about groups which Hereford City Council has awarded funding to- they are also about other groups which have never requested funding but deliver something to improve the lives of others and the environment within the city of Hereford.

Nomination forms need to be submitted by noon on Thursday, March 24. Forms can be collected from Hereford Town Hall or go to www.herefordcitycouncil.gov.uk/your-city/awards/hereford-city-community-group-achievement-awards/
