THE third beer and cider festival in Ross-on-Wye attracted more than 1,000 people, including many tourists.

The event on Saturday and Sunday was organised by the rowing, Rotary and Lions clubs from the town.

There were a range of beer and ciders on offer and live music throughout.

Sue Wilding, chair of Rossbeerfest, said there was a better turnout this year than last year with around 1,000 people attending over the weekend.

She said: "It was definitely better than last year. We had better tents and had a huge waterproof marquee, which was really good. We reconfigured the site and loaned a lorry from Gamber Products Ltd for the stage."

She said a lot of people volunteered to serve drinks and there was great community support.

Mrs Wilding said: "It is not just about raising money but it is also about putting on a good community event that people can enjoy and it adds to the area. We had so many tourists."

The Wye Valley River Festival in Ross took place on Sunday. The festival's travelling caravan Wye Serai provided family entertainment at the Rope Walk and there were performances from the Water Ones, George Choir and the festival street band.

The May Day on the Wye also took place on Sunday- at the Hope and Anchor river bank. There were stalls, Morris Dancers, donkey rides and two bouncy castles. A total of £222.70 was raised for charity.
