A FORMER Luctonians rugby player is currently taking part in a 500-mile cycle from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower.

David Perkins, whose parents live in Wigmore, set off from Blackpool with four friends on Saturday, April 30.

They are raising money in aid of Winston's Wish- a charity that provide support to help children and young people rebuild their lives after the death of their mum, dad, brother or sister.

The trip was born after the terrible atrocities that took place in Paris in November 2015 and the desire to show a sense of solidarity with our European neighbours.

One of the riders, Craig Budsworth, is also a family friend of a couple who lost one of their twin girls in a car crash in Avonmouth.

David has borrowed a bike from a friend and has not trained for the event because he believes a strong mental attitude will win out.
