TWO talented students of the John Masefield High School in Ledbury have been called 'a credit to the school', after achieving European glory in line dancing, at Blackpool.

Olivia James, aged 14, Jason Moore, aged 15, recently attended the European championships in Blackpool and returned with top titles.

Olivia, who dances in the division 2 teenage category, won country classic division; solo division and partners division with Jason.

Jason, who dances in the division 3 teenage category, won solo division and the partners partners with Olivia.

A school spokesman said: "We were delighted to hear of Olivia and Jason's success. Both students work very hard at school and balance their studies with four dance sessions a week. They are a credit to themselves, their parents and the school.

"Their recent success at the European Championships in the gilded Tower Ballroom in Blackpool demonstrates that hard work and determination pays off and we hope they go on to achieve more success in their chosen field."

Both students have been trained from the age of five by Emily Williams, who is a four times European and World champion, and they train at Munsley WI Hall.

They dance modern line dance which has 33 principle dances which include cha cha , waltz , rumba and street.

Both Olivia and Jason are hoping to compete again in Blackpool at the World Masters Championships against people from Europe , South Africa and Australia.

This event will take place in August and is described by organisers as "one of the most highly anticipated championship events in the calendar year, with amazing, high-quality competition, judged by world-class professionals".
