A WOMAN was punched by a cyclist after she went over to help following a collision in Hereford.

Between 4.15pm and 4.25pm on Wednesday, May 18 the 58-year-old woman was walking down Whitecross Road towards The Monument pub when she saw a car pulling out of the junction of Whitecross Day Nursery.

She witnessed a collision between a silver Volkswagen Passat and a cyclist and went over to assist.

The cyclist tried to ride off on his bike after the collision and the woman tried to stop him by holding onto the saddle of his bike.

Whilst she was doing this, the cyclist is then believed to have punched her before she let go and he walked up the road.

The cyclist is described as a white man in his 20s and of a slim build.

He is believed to be between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 9ins tall with short blond hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a light grey polo style T-shirt and light grey tracksuit bottoms.

He was riding a dark coloured mountain type bike which may have had a damaged front wheel after the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101.
