AN organisation which supports homeless young people has been boosted by a grant which has enabled it to install a sensory garden.

Five young people from SHYPP's (Supported Housing for Young People) Hereford foyer teamed up with Kelly Taylor, a student on placement with the organisation, to apply for a small grant of £500 from Grow Wild to transform their back garden.

Working on ideas to create a relaxing community space, they have now completed and transformed the garden space into a calming, sensory, and creative environment where they have been involved in learning about habitats and nature.

The inspiration for the Grow Wild space was to create an area of calm to get together, inspire their senses, practice mindfulness and grow edibles such as herbs.

The space will be used for various activities such as painting, yoga and photography all whilst being surrounded by native wild flowers.

The young people have also built some living furniture and insect hotels, painted furniture and invited guests and neighbours and hosted a very successful open day tea party.

SHYPP faced funding cuts at the start of the year but are still continuing to provide their full range of services for homeless young people across the county.

The organisation is calling for fundraising support to enable this to continue.
