A TERMINALLY ill Star Wars fan from Hereford is believed to have been granted his final wish to see the newest film in the franchise following a social media campaign - just days before he sadly died.

Neil Hanvey, 36, was told in April that he had six to eight months to live.

The devastating news meant that Mr Hanvey was unlikely to see the new Star Wars film, Rogue One, which is due to be released in December.

Last week, Amy Duncan, a health care assistant who cared for Mr Hanvey at Bartestree's St Michael's Hospice, decided to do everything she could to make his dream of seeing the film happen.

Since then, her campaign hashtag #rogueonewish has been shared across social media by people across the globe.

Sadly, Mr Hanvey died last night - but it looks like his final wish was granted.

On its Facebook page, the hospice said yesterday: “On behalf of Neil Hanvey, his wife Andrea and all his family, we want to thank everyone who supported the ‪#‎RogueOneWish‬ campaign.

"The director of Rogue One, Gareth Edwards did all he could to make Saturday a very special day for Neil.

"Neil, his family and everyone at St Michael's Hospice would like to say thank you to Disney, Lucasfilm and especially Gareth Edwards."
