A REVELLER caught with a variety of drugs worth £1,300 at a summer music festival near Ledbury has been sent to jail.

Ismail Chowdhury was searched by security guards as he went from the campsite into the main music area at the El Dorado Festival, held at Eastnor Castle, on July 1 this year, Worcester Crown Court heard.

His rucksack was searched and he was found to be carrying packages containing drugs including 87 ecstasy tablets, nearly 40 grams of ketamine and small amounts of cocaine and cannabis, Kevin Grego, prosecuting, told the court.

Chowdhury, of Overton Road, London, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply and three of possession. The court heard he had been in court before for four previous drugs offences.

Hassan Baig, defending, said the 26-year-old and a group of around 25 friends would take it in turns to buy the drugs for them to use at festivals to ensure they were not "ripped off.".

They were not the usual kind of drug users seen before the courts but were employed in professional occupations and Chowdhury had bought the drubs from a reliable source because he did not want to buy any "dodgy stuff."

He had bought the drugs originally to take to the Glastonbury festival but had not been able to make it so had taken them to El Dorado instead, Mr Baig said.

He intended only to make enough money to pay for his own drug use during the festival.

"It was a foolish errand," Mr Baig said.

Chowdhury was given a total sentence of two years by Judge Nicolas Cartwright..

"Taking drugs in quantity into a festival with the intention of distributing them to 25 others quite clearly merits an immediate custodial sentence," the judge said.
