A VILLAGE primary school has teamed up with Bartestree Gardening Club to provide some green-fingered support for St Michael's Hospice.

The partnership is part of the inaugural St Michael's Plant Fair which will take place in the hospice gardens on May 5 and May 6.

Pupils from Garway Primary School, along with members of Bartestree Gardening Club are just some of the people helping to make the new event a blooming success by growing plants which will be sold to raise vital funds for St Michael’s.

Julie Jones, the Headteacher at Garway Primary School, said: "When I heard about the project it seemed like an excellent opportunity to get the children growing plants for a real purpose.

"We already have an after-school Gardening Club, but this gives it an added dimension because the children will be growing something with a specific community benefit."

Gillian Watts, Chairman of the Bartestree Gardening Club, said, ‘The Plant Fair is a fantastic idea because people love to buy plants. We are keen to do all we can to help raise funds for the Hospice, so helping the children at Garway to get growing has been a real pleasure. I hope it inspires others to start sowing seeds for the Hospice.’
