A HEREFORD school has been praised by Ofsted inspectors who have said it 'continues to be good'.

The regulator visited Whitecross Hereford, on Three Elms Road, last month for a short inspection and found it was still 'good', as previously rated in a 2013 full inspection.

Inspectors said the leadership team are ambitious for every pupil, with improved results and behaviour and effective safeguarding.

Tim Knapp, head teacher at Whitecross Hereford, said: "Ofsted have rightly recognised the rapid improvements in progress. We are a school committed to being the best and delivering a first class education where students not only work hard and achieve but also where they can be happy and fulfilled.

"We believe that to do this we have to build a culture of collaboration and shared ownership where students, staff and parents feel they belong and where a philosophy of lifelong learning underpins our determination to get better at what we do.

"The highest expectations and strong systems underpin a thriving school community with great relationships and real ambition."

The Ofsted report highlighted an improvement in almost every measure and in many subjects in the 2016 GCSEs, with boys performing better in mathematics than would be expected nationally.

Results were also better than expected nationally in science, modern foreign languages, and in most humanities subjects.

The next steps outlined for further improvement include ensuring pupils supported by the pupil premium and those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities attend more frequently and regularly and to accelerate actions to improve the quality of pupils’ work in English and the rates of improvement in GCSE English, the open element and the English baccalaureate.

Mr Knapp added: "We know ourselves extremely well and know that we are not perfect. There must always be a humility and honesty to what we do – there are always things to improve. "However, by working together with the support of our committed governors and an incredible team of professionals, I look forward to an even brighter future.”
