LOCAL Newspaper Week (LNW) celebrates the role played by the many titles in communities across the UK and aims to highlight the importance of highly trusted local journalism and campaigning.

Run by Local Media Works, this year's event will celebrate local newspapers’ campaigning successes.

And the Hereford Times, of course, has already been commended for its work promoting the Haven's breast cancer service.

Our coverage there won Campaign of the Year at the Regional Press Awards. This year, we have turned our attention to the fabulous work provided by Megan Baker House.

This year, LNW follows directly on from the local media industry’s Fighting Fake News campaign which saw local press titles join forces to highlight how local papers fight fake news.

Political leaders Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and Tim Farron were among those to lend their support to our campaigns and explained how our industry plays an essential democratic role in the lead up to the general election on June 8.

The leaders note that through local newspapers, which are read in print and digital by 40 million people each week, people are able to access trustworthy information and make well-informed decisions.
