AN ELDERLY couple needed hospital treatment after being attacked by two masked burglars demanding cash at their Weobley home.

Police are appealing for information following the aggravated burglary in the Marsh area of the village, at 1am on Saturday.

The two men forced entry into the property and once inside physically assault the couple with a metal bar and demanded cash.

The offenders fled the scene empty handed when the victims told them they were pensioners with no money to steal.

The victims, a man and woman, received head and hand injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Prior to the incident, it is reported that the victims had started to hear noises near their home late in the evening.

Both offenders are described as having a slim build and wearing dark clothing with their faces covered. The victims believe the offenders had foreign accents.

Detective Constable Peter Bradbury, from Hereford CID, said: "This is an unprovoked and wholly unnecessary attack on vulnerable victims.

"I would like to reassure the community of Weobley that incidents of this nature are rare and we have increased uniform patrols in the area to offer reassurance.

"Were you in the area between 11pm and 1am and heard or saw any suspicious activity during or prior the incident, if so, then please contact us on 101 quoting incident 53s of 12 August 2017"
