THE winners of Newent in Bloom’s Count the Bees shop window trail are Charlotte and Sophie Williams, aged 12 and 9.

Newent is known for its themed window displays, and the latest designs were aimed to highlight the importance of bees as pollinators in our gardens, farms and the countryside.

The sisters, from Kilcot, counted over 200 bees in more than twenty Newent shop windows.

They have won a collection of sweet delights donated by Newent in Bloom supporters, including, of course, honey.

Charlotte and Sophie, together with their mum Cheryl, collected their prize from Newent in Bloom supporter Maggie Prince, a partner in Pippins greengrocery.

"It was quite hard to find all the bees in some of the windows, there were lots, especially in All Seasons Deli, said Charlotte.

A Newent in Bloom spokesman said: “We’d like to thank all the children who took part in the trail. None of them quite got all of the bees - nobody spotted the two in the Patchwork Basket’s window - but the Williams sisters' is the most painstaking, near-accurate count and they are well-deserved winners.”
