A LOTTERY has been launched at the John Masefield High School in Ledbury, to raise funds for the school and to give parents the chance of a top prize of £25,000 every week.

This is because 100 other schools are running the lottery, including Cradley Primary.

But the Masefield will also be offering parents the chance to win a guaranteed top prize of £20 a week, for a stake of £1, and this total will rise as more people play.

The lottery at the high school has been organised as a regular fund-raiser by the Friends of the John Masefield.

Vicky Baker, chairman of the Friends said: "Everyone is aware how schools are strapped for cash across the country, we as parents wanted to support our school by building a community of parents, friends and students as well as raising much needed funds.

"Events and activities have been great so far but these need organising and staffing. We also wanted to find ways of giving money to school that are simple, easy and fun.

She added: "We thought about setting up a 100 Club, but actually doing it digitally makes a lot more sense. The organisations Yourschoollottery.co.uk set up and run each school’s lottery, saving a lot of time and effort for volunteers. There is no limit to the number of tickets sold per school, anyone can buy a ticket for this lottery as a supporter of JHMS – friends, neighbours, as well as parents, grandparents uncles and aunts, and every month there is the fun chance to win that £25,000 jackpot."

Most students will not be able to play, however, as there is an age limit of sixteen.

The first two days, following the announcement of the new lottery, saw more than forty tickets being sold, and the first draw will be on November 4.
