A GALLERY owner said she feels frustrated at the amount of road closure signs on a busy county route as they are putting people off coming to view and buy her artwork.

Sue Lim runs Blue Ginger in Cradley and sells art and crafts on behalf of artists, and there is also a coffee shop on site.

But she said the A4103 road closures on the Worcester to Hereford road for resurfacing work is greatly affecting her business.

Ms Lim said that even though the road is no longer closed outside her gallery, visitors are put off by the 16 to 18 Road Closed signs.

She said: "It is very frustrating as they have left all of the signs up.

"I thought I had to put up with it whilst they were outside my place.

"But it is now beginning to dawn on me. We are in week four and I have got eight weeks of this."

Ms Lim even resorted to placing paper signs on the official information signs to let people know her gallery was still open, but these have been removed.

The road closures are between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, while the gallery's opening hours are 10am to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.

She said: "At the weekend all of the signs come down. It feels like we are living in a parallel universe as it is then back to normal again. It is so noticeable during the week.

"I have been running this business for 12 to 13 years. This is like when I very first opened - when no-one knew I was here.

"It is not just me. I represent about 70 artists - a lot of them are local.I am not selling their work."

A Herefordshire Council spokesman said: "Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty Living Places are working hard to complete the resurfacing programme as efficiently and quickly as possible to minimise the disruption to businesses and residents. We realise that these unprecedented works have inevitably had an impact on some businesses."

They added: "We continue to provide access routes to businesses when safe to do so, and these are only restricted in special circumstances. ‘Businesses open as usual’ signage has been deployed along the A4103, as well as information boards displaying the distances to the next section of works. We constantly review the type and location of the signage, and we have changed the wording on our electronic signs to be clearer."
