MORE than 50 students from a college in Hereford helped promote a charity which works to prevent the daily hunger of children globally.

The students from the Public Services course at Herefordshire and Ludlow College were in High Town in Hereford to talk to the public about the Mary’s Meals charity and its World Porridge Day.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma students gave out leaflets about the project and spoke to passers-by.

In Malawi and Liberia, where Mary's Meals has its largest school feeding programmes, the children receive vitamin-enriched maize porridge every school day. World Porridge Day celebrates the huge difference this daily mug of porridge makes to the lives of chronically hungry children.

The students take part in a variety of activities as part of the volunteering element of their course.

Programme Manager Craig Smith said: “We at the college are so very proud of our students. They show such great passion and maturity when they support such causes as Mary’s Meals. Selflessness is a quality that goes hand in hand with Public Service.”
