THE A49 will be closed overnight during the next month between the Starting Gate roundabout and the Debenhams roundabout.

Kier is carrying out lighting and road markings work on the A49 on behalf of Highways England.

Work starts tonight and runs until November 17 - working hours are between 8.30pm and 6am.

Works will mainly take place under overnight part closures using temporary traffic signals and occasional full closures of the A49 as required, Kier said.

There will be a diversion route for northbound traffic which will leave the A49 at Victoria Street and follow the A438 westbound, before taking the third exit at the next roundabout on the A4110. Turn right on the A4103 and follow eastbound to rejoin the A49 at Starting Gate.

The southbound traffic will be directed to turn left at Starting Gate and travel east on the A4103 before joining the A465 towards Hereford and rejoining the A49 via Newmarket Street.

Newtown Road southbound from Mortimer Road to the Pizza Hut roundabout is already closed to traffic.
