A HEREFORD church wants to remind residents that its popular carol service will be held on a different day of the week this year.

Holy Trinity in Whitecross Road usually holds its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on the Sunday before Christmas Eve but, as this year this is a week ahead, organisers felt it would be too early.

Instead the service is on Wednesday, December 20 at 7pm.

Jack Pickford, director of music at the church, said: "Holy Trinity Church is proud to have one of the very best parish church choirs in the area, with a high proportion of young singers.

"An annual highlight for us is our Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. It includes carols sung by the choir as well as carols for all, with exciting brass accompaniments, and readings of the Christmas story. The service opens very atmospherically, with the darkened building lit only by candlelight."

The church is one of the venues used by the Three Choirs Festival.
