Coach trip led to 60-year journey

Diamond day: Roy and Barbara Davies celebrated their big day with 50 guests, including children Dawn, Pam and Sandra.
A COACH trip to a seaside resort led to 60 years of happy marriage for a Ledbury couple.
Roy and Barbara Davies, of New Street, met when Roy, who lived in Putley, stayed one night with a cousin in Much Marcle.
The cousin was going on a village coach trip to Weston-super-Mare the next day and there was a spare space for Roy; it was on the coach that he met Barbara.
Five years later they were married, but not before Roy had to complete national service, which took him to Malaya and Hong Kong.
They married at the church in Much Marcle on February 16, 1952, and last Saturday, February 18, they celebrated 60 years of marriage with family and friends at the Walwyn Arms in the village.
“It was a first-class do,” said Mr Davies.
Among the 50 guests were the couple's daughters, Pam, Sandra and Dawn.
“We have always done everything together,”
said Mr Davies. “My wife introduced me to bell-ringing, and I ended up being bell-ringing captain at Marcle for 12 years.”
Mr and Mrs Davies also worked together for many years at Westons, the cider maker, where Mrs Davies works in the office and her husband was a driver.
