Honours for the great and good

NOMINATIONS are being sought to honour the great and good of Bromyard who selflessly offer their time for the benefit of the local community.

The Distinguished Citizens Award returns in its 15th year, offering Bromyard and Winslow Town Council the opportunity to recognise and honour townspeople for their vital voluntary work.

To date 79 people have received the award, with members of local sports clubs and societies, charity workers and fund-raisers ranking among them.

The awards also include a Young Distinguished Citizen category.

Town clerk Mike Cresswell encouraged people to make nominations across all of the awards on offer.

He said: “This is the way the council sees bringing to the forefront those who work tirelessly for the town and also keep it looking good.”

Previous recipients include Mandy Palmer, who was acknowledge last year for her 15 years’ service at the Bromyard and District Local History Society.

Recipients can live in neighbouring parishes but their work must be for the benefit of Bromyard and Winslow and they must not be town or county councillors, nominated by a close family member or a previous nominee.

Nominations should be made in writing by Saturday, March 31, to the town clerk, Council Offices, The Old Vicarage, 1 Rowberry Street, Bromyard, HR7 4DU or via e-mail at bromyard.towncouncil@virgin.

net.

It should include the nominee’s name, address and information on their activities.

Successful candidates will be announced at the annual town meeting in May.

The Civic Pride award, now in its third year, celebrates the work of local businesses and organisations in recognition of a service, presentation or another benefit they bring to the town.

There are three categories – retail, industrial and voluntary groups. Nominations should not be made by the owners or staff.

The awards will be presented at the annual town meeting.
