New gated access to right of way near pub

THERE will be a gated access to a right of way near an old village pub.

A footpath running alongside the old Farmer’s Boy on Kempsey Common had been causing some contention after the tenant farmer over whose land the path runs locked the gate, said councillor Michael Legg.

“The county council wanted it open, and the tenant farmer wanted it locked,” he told fellow parish councillors at a meeting on Monday, April 2.

“The county council has now said it will put a pedestrian gate in and the main gate which the farmer wants locked will be indeed be locked.

“That will happen shortly, so the farmer has won.”

Coun John Michael, parish council chairman, said: “That’s the best result I think.”
