A TEENAGER has been inspired by the Olympics and the death of her grandfather to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Abi Cole, aged 18, of the Homend, will cycle 100 miles from Lambeth Palace, London, to the Bestival festival on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday.

She will ride in memory of grandfather John May, who lost his business due to a cancerous brain tumour and died prematurely in his early 60s.

She said: “A death similar to his could be prevented by advances in the scientific understanding of such cancers and thus the work of the charity is vital.

"It meant I missed out on having an adult relationship with a great man.”

She will be part of a band of 90 musicians aiming to arrive at the Bestival site on Wednesday evening.

Each cyclist has made a personal pledge to raise in excess of £200.
