Prominent new role for town’s MP

LEDBURY’S MP Bill Wiggin has been handed a new role in David Cameron’s government reshuffle.

Leaving the Government Whips’ Office after four years, he will now chair the Committee of Selection in the House of Commons.

Mr Wiggin said he was looking forward to the new role, the first time he has chaired a select committee.

“The job combines my experience from the Whips’ Office with the procedures of the House,” he said. “We appoint members to the various committees needed”.

The post also carries with it membership of the Liaison Committee, which holds the Prime Minister himself to account.
