Share Cube memories

THE team at MalvernCube - formerly the youth centre – are on the lookout for memories of the building for its 50th anniversary next May.

Lisa Loudon, of Malvern Youth and Community Trust, said: “We are looking for ways to celebrate and would love to hear your ideas to make it a special event, but we’d also like your recollections and photographs too.”

The takeover of the centre in Albert Road North has aroused a lot of interest, and local people have been dropping in to have a chat with manager Jon White, find out what’s going on, share their memories and volunteer their time.

One is Bill Pritchard, who was present at the opening of the centre, nearly 50 years ago and who remembers Bob Walker, who ran it.

He said: “I remember him playing the guitar and leading a folk singing group. Also, I remember the ‘holiday with a difference’ organised by the youth centre. We went with children from the hospice that used to be based at Link Top.”

Mr Pritchard DJ’d at the centre over the years and recalls well-known bands featuring, such as Jethro Tull and Hawkwind.

  • The trust has been given £1,200 from the Changing Futures Fund which paid for three days of training on financial sustainability.

Jon White, Cube manager, said: “I found it really useful having someone external coming in to advise and support us in developing this new centre – it helped us to step back, reflect and plan wisely for the future.”
