Lions' fun contest is a real knockout
MALVERN Hills Lions are looking for help from local businesses to stage one of the biggest events of the club’s year.
For the last 13 years, the club has staged an It’s a Knockout competition at the Three Counties Showground for people with learning difficulties.
The event gives a muchneeded treat to those who attend one of the six day centres in the area, including the Social Education Centre in Malvern.
Now the Lions hope that local firms can chip in to help cover the cost of the event, which is around £2,000.
President John Morgan said: “We would be delighted to hear from any business that can contribute towards this event.
“We do it because the youngsters enjoy it so much, but there are costs involved in putting it on.”
About 200 people take part in the event, along with about 100 carers from the day centres.
Each centre devises a game, which all the other centres play in a series of rounds.
This year’s event has the theme of In the Spirit of the Olympics and although it is not until Wednesday, November 7, club members have already started preparing the scenery for the Avon Hall at the showground.
Mr Morgan said: “It is a really worthwhile event.
Months afterwards, if I ever bump into any of them in the street, they remember it and their faces light up.”
Anyone interested in assisting in the preparation, or who can help in the sponsoring of the event should call co-ordinator John Jenkins on 01886 832397.
