BISHOPWOOD Swan Rescue would like to thank the people of Malvern for giving so generously at their collection day on July 24 where the sum of £173 was raised.

Memories of roller skating

9:58am Wednesday 28th July 2010

I HAVE just read in Malvern Memories about a proposal to hold roller skating in the Winter Gardens.

Upton Flood Defences - another view

10:39am Tuesday 20th July 2010

THE latest flood defence plan for Upton-upon-Severn is nearly as bad as the previous one. The only improvement is not continuing the high wall past Crimmond Rose bungalow as far as the last house before the Ham: Old Walls. The part of the wall from the bridge past the Plough, King's Head, Bridge House and the Swan is the area frequented by tourists and visitors to our town in the summer.

Thought for the Week

7:10am Friday 16th July 2010

I WORK as a volunteer at Top Barn Training Centre, Holt, with a group of physically and mentally disabled adults. The therapeutic nature of the work growing crops and caring for animals is very high and for many of the clients life enhancing.

Education cuts

10:13am Tuesday 13th July 2010

FURTHER to the controversy over the decision not to fund the building of new schools, it must be noted that schools do not educate children. You could pack a class of children into a disused public toilet and with a good teacher, the children will learn.

Upton Flood Defences

10:01am Tuesday 6th July 2010

I WAS most surprised to read your article in the Malvern Gazette of Friday, June 26.

Cyclists on the hills - a possible solution?

3:56pm Monday 5th July 2010

WRITING in sympathy with the letter (Malvern Gazette, July 2) about the dangers from cyclists on the hills, I, too, this week had a near miss. Walking along the track to the Giant's Cave in a southerly direction, I heard the cyclist when he was only a few yards behind me. When he'd overtaken, I assumed I was safe but had a nasty shock when three or four others in close formation followed, without warning.

Rainfall reporting

3:48pm Monday 5th July 2010

IT was widely reported in last week's newspapers, and stated on the television, that Britain has experienced the driest first six months of the year since 1929. This originated from a Met Office press release.

Upton Flood Defences

12:14pm Monday 5th July 2010

YOU seem only to print positive letters regarding the proposed flood defences in Upton upon Severn, I am wondering why this is the case when there are so many people who feel that the choice of defences and the placement of the wall is entirely inappropriate.

Praise for waterfront proposals

12:34pm Tuesday 29th June 2010

WELL done the Environment Agency! They have listened to local suggestions and acted upon them. Their new Upton Waterfront proposals satisfy earlier concerns, and offer a stunningly attractive waterside pedestrian promenade.
